LEAST UCI RANKINGSDEC 16

The official governing body for international mountain biking racing, the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale), ranks the best mountain bikers worldwide based on their race results over the previous 365 days. Riders can view their ranking every month to check how they are doing. Rankings change all the time. These ratings will determine how selections for the 2004 Olympics are made.

We have included other riders who are of interest in the sections labeled outside the top ten, such as Miguel Martinez, who was awarded the gold medal for men’s Olympic mountain biking in 2000. Miguel Martinez retired from mountain biking to compete on road bikes. However, he may want to go back to the dirt in search of more Olympic gold.

Paola Pezzo won Olympic gold in 2000 and 1996, but she is now retired. But maybe the lure of Olympic Gold will motivate her to get back on the pedals. Bart Brentjens (35), who won the first Olympic mountain biking gold medal for men in 1996, is the top male rider in the rankings.
