Sea Otter Draws Near. What To Expect

All Around Action and Above

Spectators in Sea Otter Village have 360-degree views of the races and activities taking place around the venue. This includes contests, costumes and team autographs, personal conversation with the pros, product demonstrations, beer and barbecue, live music, bargain bins and sample sales.

As teams of experts perform tricks and flips at various events and shows around the venue, you can also see the action overhead. As part of the midday ceremonies The Pro racing will be kicked off each day with a flyover by the U.S Navy of an F-5 fighter jet. Spectators will be able to enjoy the Presidio of Monterey Air Force honor guard, followed by the sounds and sights of the Monterey High School marching bands and international flags representing all of our athletes.

Ryan Leech is a well-known specialist on trials riding, which involves balancing on a bike on a variety obstacles. Each year, his amazing tricks are brought to Sea Otter. Leech balances on a piece of equipment that is barely wider than his bike tires, while simultaneously chatting with the audience via a wireless microphone.

Leech said that he was excited to contribute once more to the Sea Otter Classic’s great atmosphere. My show is about pushing the limits and leaving people feeling excited to ride their bikes in any style they choose.

The GT Airshow will provide more wow-inducing entertainment for bikers. It features 10 world-famous BMX freestyle riders performing aerial stunts from 20-9.1 m high above the ramps. The GT Airshow can be found near Sierra Nevada Beer & BBQ Garden.

When the Airshow is over, spectators have the option to focus their attention on the Dual Stunt races. These are 121.9 m long courses with three-meter-high platforms, ladder bridges and wooden obstacles that feature two competitors. The man-made course was designed by Jeff Lenosky (freeride pioneer, former national trials champion), to be difficult.

Lenosky said that people should not look at the course and think « there is no way anyone can ride that. » This event is a great way to get your feet wet with the combination of the obstacles they ride and the head–to-head racing element.
